The Gail Lew Piano Studio is located in Alameda County with two San Francisco Bay Area locations. All Pleasanton lessons are taught at the Ingram and Brauns Musik Shoppe located at 3160 Santa Rita Road on the southeast corner of Santa Rita Road and W. Las Positas Blvd in Pleasanton. All Castro Valley lessons are taught in my home studio conveniently located in the Palomares Hills area off E. Castro Valley Blvd and Villareal Drive. Piano lessons involve all facets of music, from theory, sight-reading, and ear training, to performance and technique. Students of the Gail Lew Piano Studio receive a traditional approach to teaching with an emphasis on Classical Music. Lesson programs follow both the Music Teachers Association of California State Piano Syllabus (Levels 1 – 9 and advanced) and the National Guild of Piano Teachers curriculum (Levels Elementary A – Preparatory D and High School Diploma).
Recitals and both state and national auditions and testing are a part of the piano curriculum. All students are expected to participate in a minimum of four musical activities during the academic year. These activities include public piano recitals, National Guild of Piano Teachers Auditions, and the Music Teachers Association of California Certificate of Merit™ evaluations.
Rate of progress is directly correlated with preparation time for lessons. A minimum of 30 minutes practice a day, 6 days per week, is expected for 30 minute lessons, 45 minutes practice a day, 6 days per week for 45 minute lessons, and 60 minutes practice a day, 6 days per week is expected for 60 minute lessons. Appropriate practice schedules are negotiated with each student and consistent practice is rewarded at the Spring Awards Recital with presentation of a Practice Trophy.
But most importantly, all lessons are geared towards helping students develop a love for music and a love for playing the piano.
Your personal interview may be scheduled at the Ingram and Brauns Musik Shoppe or in your home. There is no charge for your personal interview, theory test, sight-reading test, and performance evaluation.
